Suryanamaskar A

Today's model is Sir Rascus of the Lego Knights' Kingdom. Rascus is associated with the monkey and all that is rascally. He stands out among his fellow knights for being a daring acrobat, and we are pleased to have him demonstrating this sun salutation sequence for us.

Samasthiti!

Rascus has his visor up, all four corners of his big, flat feet grounded into the floor, and he seems pretty confident that he's the best looking guy in the shala this morning.

Ekam!

Inhale, arms up! Okay, Rascus has some tight shoulders, he can't get his palms together over his head, but he's worked out a pretty good compromise pose here and his posture looks great. Due to a neck injury he received fighting the evil Lord Vladek, Rascus has a blue plastic post attaching his head to his torso and is unable to tip his head back and get a nice stretch in his throat muscles. But no sense in pushing it and reinjuring the area.

Dve!

Whoops! That exhale and forward bend tipped Rascus right onto his toes.

Trini!

Inhale halfway back up and, okay, keep your knees bent to take some of the pressure off your lower back.

Catvari!

Exhale. Nice jump back, fella! We're going to have to talk about that visor flipping up and down over your face all the time.

And come down to chaturanga. Still exhaling? Good. You're a little rigid, I think your right foot is off the ground entirely.

Panca!

Inhale up! Nice strong arms and legs, guy.

Sat!

Exhale. Nice. Stay here for five breaths. Heels on the floor? Fantastic.

Sapta!

Inhale and jump forward, head up . . . okay, modifying, whatever works, you're doing a terrific job for a plastic action figure with only ten points of articulation.

Astau!

Exhale and bend forward. As much as you can.

Nava!

Inhale up! And your shoulder broke. Well, that's a bummer.

Samasthiti

Exhale and arms down. Thank you and nice work, Rascus, but don't get too cocky, you still have to do this four more times before we move on to Suryanamaskar B.

Next pose.

Love it--and I don't know a thing about yoga.

The broken shoulder made me laugh out loud (is that mean of me?), but in general - nice job! It makes me feel slightly guilty that I'm lying in bed surfing the net instead of doing yoga myself.

As a mom who steps on pieces of the Knights' Kingdom and Bionicles (you're going to do this with Bionicles, too, aren't you?) all damn day, I must confess I was also just a wee bit happy when he broke his shoulder.

That's a riot! Sir Rascus, even with a broken shoulder, looks more fluid doing the sun salutation than I do.

Brilliant, he has such inner poise, I can see it in his eyes.

This is great! I only attended a few yoga classes a "few" years ago but I remember this! I even feel like trying to do it again following the instructions of Sir Rascus....
I'm looking forward to the next post!

I have the worst time getting my visor to stay back during downward dog too. Let me know if you come up with a solution for that.

Sadly, with his 10 points of articulation, he's more flexible than I am :\

This is hilarious and (sadly for me) kind of educational - i could totally see myself, following Sir Rascus' moves in my cube! Who knew i was making my action figures do yoga all those years...

Instead of Previous Posts for your archives, can you make it say Previous Poses?

OMG. Hilarious! Scroll down quickly (and no offense to your clever wordings!) and it really cracks me up.

Good luck with the venture, I hope it goes great. It may be a flukey corner, but it's (mostly) all yours. And it is hilarious.

It's amazing he can lift an entire leg in chaturanga, without even trying. I've got to work on that. Does the visor keep the sweat out of his eyes? I love it! I want to be a part of it! Oh, I wish, I wish...

I am just about to go to my yoga class and I know there will be that moment when I think of Rascus and start maniacally laughing... dammit.

Let's see Rascus do Ardha Baddha Padma Paschimattanasa!

By the way you skipped a few numbers in your counting (six and nine). The counts are:
Ekam inhale hands up,
Dve exhale fold forward,
Trini inhale flat back,
Catvari jump back lower down,
Panca inhale up dog,
Sat exhale down dog,
Sapta jump forward inhale,
Astau fold forward,
Nava inhale hands up,
Samsthitih.

In the olden days (i.e. 1980's) before these bean-guys were available, I taught my children (God only KNOWS why) some sex education basics using people made out of pipe cleaners. Y'all can imagine the rest.
Now I think I am too old for pipe cleaners, sex, and downward facing dog, let alone that stuff that would break your shoulder.
